6836 1956-04-02 Aller Junction

Peter Kerslake says "One of my best efforts of the day on 2nd. April, 1956 here at Aller Junction as Newton Abbot shed's 6836 , "Estavarney Grange" helps sister engine 6842 "Nunhold Grange", allocated to Bristol Bath Road, away from Newton Abbot, their train bound for Plymouth and onwards into Cornwall.
The load is formidable, even for a Summer Saturday, with at least ten coaches visible in my picture and Bath Road may well have had nothing larger than their little "Grange" to take over the working at Temple Meads relieving the engine from the North.
The start of Dainton bank is now just a mile or so away at Aller Junction and 6836 has come on here at Newton Abbot to assist over the banks down to Plymouth where a fresh engine will doubtless take the working down into Cornwall, although Bristol Bath Road engines did often find themselves working right through to Penzance when circumstances required".
