71000 1956-06-01 Crewe
Peter Kerslake writes "At just past 4pm 71000 has arrived with the 1.30pm from Euston under the watchful eyes of two trilby-hatted Traction Inspectors and a group of schoolboys, whilst two other Inspectors are just visible by the loaded trolley, both also making their way up to the engine. There appears to be a problem uncoupling The Duke from its train and a group on the platform are watching the action with interest, including a young Royal Naval Petty Officer who has probabaly arrived from my home town of Plymouth. The chap who seems to be doing the uncoupling looks like a fitter, and certainly isn't 71000's fireman. 46236 City of Liverpool took the train forward to Glasgow after adding the single through coach from Plymouth to Glasgow, the longest through coach working at this time."
