1369 1962-08-31 Boscarne Junction

On a freight from Wenford Bridge.
A delightful image of little 1369 at Boscarne Junction , now the " end of the line " on the heritage railway Bodmin and Wenford branch from Bodmin General and the present home of this now preserved example of the original six members of the " 1366 " class , introduced by the G.W.R. in 1934.
Performing its customary duty very early in her days at Wadebridge at the head of a china clay train 1369 was considered the best of the three members of her class transferred to Wadebridge for the china clay workings in the summer of 1962 , with sister engine 1367 being in poor condition although 1368 was also put to use on these duties.
The three members of this class had replaced the three 1874 built Beattie Well tanks , the mainstay of the china clay workings , so well associated with the line for many years past.
Following withdrawal in November of 1964 , 1369 was purchased for preservation thanks to a joint Great Western Society and Dart Valley Railway appeal, initially being kept at Totnes before transfer to Buckfastleigh in April of 1966 where she can be seen today
During the week of 13th . February , 2017 this little engine shown here was joined at her home on the South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh by one of the three Beattie Well Tanks which she , in company with her two sisters 1367 and 1368 , had replaced on their china clay workings in the Duchy of Cornwall way back in the summer of 1962 .
The unique opportunity for enthusiasts of witnessing two of the former locomotives associated with the Cornish china clay workings in and around the Bodmin area was one not to be missed , especially as 1369 was nearing the end of its present boiler certifcate .
Happily , both 1369 and 30587 survived into preservation
