Peter Kerslake says "The Western Region's railcars did not look so attractive in their all over green livery and number 34 together with sister unit number 17 were the two designed just for parcels traffic primarily within the London area and had no passenger carrying capacity.
Bodywork on the later railcars was constructed at Swindon, unlike earlier varients which had bodywork from Park Royal and the Gloucester Railway and Carriage Company."
