W33W W38W 1955-10-02 Landor Street Birmingham

This most remarkable sight was in 1955 when a three car GWR railcar set travelled with a group of Nat West Bank railway enthusiasts from Paddington to Derby via Birmingham. The railcar is on the Up Camp Hill line at Landor Street Junction. The signal is off for the Up main line, the other signal is to the Up goods line. The engines to the far right are on Saltley Shed, and in the distance is the gas works and to the left Lawley Street. Adjacent to the signal box is a water column frequently used by passing trains and also the cabin where Saltley men, the driver, fireman and guard, waited to relieve crews arriving at Landor Street. The train crews were booked to complete the walk in ten minutes from Saltley shed to the relief cabin. The line to the left of the signalbox is the ex-LNWR route to Bescot and Walsall and where the railcar is on the right are the ex-Midland Railway to Castle Bromwich and Water Orton.
