W30W 1955-08-20 West Drayton
GWR diesel railcar No W30W departs empty from West Drayton on August 20, 1955.
Peter Kerslake says "One of the total fleet of thirty eight Diesel Railcars dating back to 1933 and the days of the Great Western Railway this view of W30W shows her at West Drayton when she was shedded at Southall, one of five Railcars at the Depot at this period in time.
In the mid 'fifties the remaining thirty five of the original thirty eight were spead over no less than thirteen Motive Power Depots, with Bristol St. Philip's Marsh, Southall and nearby Reading having five on their respective allocations, whilst Worcester had the most with six.
Single examples were to be found at such diverse locations as Gloucester, for working the Chalford services, and in South Wales at Newport, Swansea's Landore, Cardiff's Canton and at Carmarthen.
The class survived until 1962 when W25W appears to have been the last to remain in service, and two made it into preservation"
