W29W 1959-06-05 Tenbury Wells
GWR diesel railcar No W29W at Tenbury Wells on the 4.58pm service to Kidderminster, June 5, 1959.
Peter Kerslake says "Resplendent in an all over green livery Diesel Railcar W29W was one of three of her class shedded at Stourbridge Junction at this time for use on the Tenbury Wells line as seen here.
The later units, from W18W had the advantage of having not just the original single power unit of the early versions but a second unit as well thereby doubling their power output to 242 horse power, with the last four entering service in 1941 intended to work as pairs together with a sandwiched 70 foot coach and rated at a total of 420 horse power.
Although generally to be found working branch line passenger services a number were often seen on the main line with those units at Bristol St. Philip's Marsh for example working on the main line through the Severn Tunnel down to Cardiff and eastwards to Bath."
