Midland Pullman 1960s Ratcliffe Redhill Tunnel near Trent
With construction work on Ratcliffe power station just beginning, the 'Midland Pullman' passes on its mid-day trip from Nottingham to St Pancras. The train left Manchester originally at 8.50am, and from January 1961 at 7.45am, and arrived in London 3¼ later. After a short lay-over it departed, initially just to Leicester, but in January 1961 the trip was extended to Nottingham. The glamour of the 'Midland Pullman' was short-lived because once the LMR Euston-Manchester electrification was completed in 1966 the sets were transferred to the Western Region.
