D319 1965-05-16 Mirfield MPD

BR 'Class 40' 1Co-Co1 diesel No. D319. Built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn Ltd. of Darlington in March 1961 and withdrawn in December 1980 as TOPS No. 40119.

A group of 'spotters' are standing on the coaling road in May 1965 at Mirfield MPD yard. They're taking time to watch a short parcels train with D319 in charge, heading west along the Calder Valley. Within a mile or so at Heaton Lodge the route diverges, left to Huddersfield and Standedge or right to Todmorden. Mirfield MPDs buildings of L&YR origin survived until recently but were then demolished to make way for a housing development.
