D349 1963-02-03 Selby

D349 1963-02-03 Selby

Remarkably, this scene at Selby Station has barely changed in sixty years. The motive power these days is radically different of course and no longer is Selby part of the ECML from York to Doncaster. BR 'Class 40' D349 has just crossed the distinctive swing bridge that crosses the River Ouse. Selby was once a terminus station, onward travelers to Hull walked to a nearby jetty where boats would (very slowly) complete their journey! This photograph was taken on Sunday 3rd February 1963
