This mid-1970s photo shows passing tanker trains at Wakefield Kirkgate Station with 'Class 40' 40198 heading east along the calder Valley. Kirkgate had already lost it's impressive overall roof in 1972 and was to suffer a long decline into semi-dereliction. Recent investment has turned the tide and the station is now quite smart although passenger numbers are still modest.
