5572 1945-04-21 Kentish Town MPD

LMS Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0 No. 5572 'Eire'. Built by NBL of Glasgow in Sept. 1934, named 'Irish Free State' in Mar. 1936, re-named 'Eire' in Sept. 1938 and withdrawn in Jan. 1964 as BR No. 45572. The unmistakeable castellate premises of Read Bros. 'Dogshead Beer' bottling plant dominates the background in this April 1945 scene at Kentish Town MPD. Still in red livery shortly before the end of the war in Europe, 5572 was to retain this LMS livery until March 1949 albeit latterley with BR numbers. Stanier 'Black 5' No. 4851 is also seen on the left.
