Brand spanking new 'Coronation' 4-6-2 No. 6232 'Duchess of Montrose' has arrived at Shrewsbury Station in August 1938 on a running-in turn. This was a routine 'out and back' journey for brand new or overhauled ex-works locomotives from Crewe. The outward appearance of these iconic locomotives was significantly altered by the addition of smoke deflectors. Both formats have their supporters! The crew of GWR 'Castle' No. 4094 'Dynevor Castle' appear to be looking on in admiration. 6232 was built at Crewe in July 1938 and was withdrawn in Dec. 1962 as BR No. 46232.
