5087 1920s Crewe
The large enamel advertising signs were an immediate landmark on the approach to Crewe Station. The ninety L&NWR Webb 'Waterloo' class (LMS '1P') 2-4-0s were once amongst the principal passenger locomotives of the former self-styled 'Premier Line'. By the late 1920s the few survivors had been relegated to lesser duties. This fine view shows No. 5087 'Narcissus' rolling into the station with a five coach 'local train. 5087 was built at Crewe in Nov. 1890 as L&NWR No. 604 and was withdrawn in Sept. 1930.
