7804 1951 Dainton

GWR Manor class 4-6-0 No 7804 Baydon Manor pilots a Castle class 4-6-0 up Dainton with a Sunday express for Plymouth in 1951.
Peter Kerslake says "Neither engine seems to be working very hard, and the load which looks like eight coaches would have been within the limit for the "Castle" to take unassisted between Newton Abbot and Plymouth. Milepost 216-1/4 is two miles from the summit and Dainton Tunnel signalbox, and this view is on the lower stretch of Dainton, just past Aller Junction, which may well account for the fact that both engines appear to be "taking it easy" with the hard work still ahead! There are roofboards on the coaches which indicates a scheduled working, but they may be reversed if this is an excursion."
