Peter Kerslake says "The Torbay Express workings were invariably handled in both directions by Castles from Newton Abbot and Old Oak Common depots so why Cardiff Canton's Caerphilly Castle has been rostered by Newton Abbot's Running Foreman to the duty is somewhat of a mystery 4073 had spent its early years at Old Oak Common but from July 1950 until February 1957 it was allocated at Bristol before its move to Canton from where it was withdrawn in May 1960."
