5008 1956-04-21 Saunderton
Castle class 4-6-0 No 5008 Raglan Castle approaches Saunderton summit with the up 'Inter-City' on April 21, 1956.
Peter Kerslake says "5008 "Raglan Castle" drifts through Saunderton, the two main lines being on a vastly different level at this point and someone is determined to acknowledge that this is the "Inter City" and has most unusually made up a form of chalked wooden headboard.
The service was introduced in September 1950 with an early morning departure from Paddington to Birmingham Snow Hill being complemented with an earlier 9 a.m. additional departure running further to Wolverhampton, together with a 4:25 p.m. return service from Wolverhampton to Paddington, those Wolverhampton workings being entitled the "Inter City", the services lasting with that name until June 1965.
From newly built at Swindon in June 1927 "Raglan Castle" was based at Plymouth's Laira Depot, later moving to Old Oak Common from where it was finally withdrawn in September 1962."
