5008 1950s Paignton

5008 1950s Paignton

A really fine study of 5008 " Raglan Castle " preparing to stop here at Paignton on her way down to Kingswear with the down " Torbay Express " from Paddington .Locomotives for the " Torbay " were provided jointly by Old Oak Common and Newton Abbot Depots , the invaraible choice of motive powe being a well turned out " Castle " , although the appearance of a " King " on the down working was not unheard of , particularly if " Castles " were in short supply at Old Oak .5008 will run back following arrival at Kingswear to Newton Abbot Depot on what ever is ready for her down at Kingswear, possibly a freight or local stopping service , the engine on these short return runs often still bearing the " Torbay Express " headboard and frequently running back tender first
