7003 1963-07-18 London Paddington
I wonder what the 1X69 working was?
7003 " Elmley Castle " had been a Landore and Bristol Bath Road engine in its earlier years , but at the date of this 1963 view had been allocated to Gloucester Horton Road since July of 1960, that Depot destined to be the final home for very many " Castles " during their last months in service.
The " 1 X 69 " chalked on the smokebox door indicates a special passenger working , and having had her stock taken out from here on Paddington's platform seven the engine is now backing out to follow down to Old Oak Common .
Built in June of 1946 " Elmley Castle " would have been well maintained in her early years whilst at Landore and one of that Depot's Top Link " Castles " , all of which were kept in the pristine condition for which that stablishment was renowned .
7003 was withdrawn from Gloucester in August of 1964 .
