7029 1965-05-29 Stroud

7029 is heading back towards Gloucester on a service train, note the van in the Up platform.Peter kerslake says "Yes , this is a scheduled working , the 5.30.p.m. return from Swindon to Gloucester of the earlier 12 . 45 p.m. outward duty , but it was a rather memorable day , with 7029 being specially rostered on that duty that day by those in authority down at Bristol Control , and I remember it well , and photographed both runs that day .That duty was still steam hauled despite the late date , being invaraibly handled by one of Gloucester's few remaining " Castles " , but on this particular Saturday " Flying Scotsman " was working the " East Midlander " Special to Swindon Works , so " Clun Castle " joined in the fun as well .With Swindon Running Shed already closed it was necessary for 7029 to turn on the Works turntable after arrival at Swindon before taking water for her run back to Gloucester on the 5.30.p.m.These duties went over to Diesel power the following month ."
