5005 1935-06-02 Swindon MPD

Great Western Railway Collett 'Castle' class 4-6-0 No. 5005 'Manorbier Castle'. Built at Swindon in June 1927 and withdrawn in Feb. 1960. Great Western Railway Churchward 'Saint' class 4-6-0 No. 2975 'Lord Palmer'. Built at Swindon in Mar. 1905 and withdrawn in Nov. 1944. Beauty and the beast! The hopelesly misguided attempt by the GWR to emulate the LNER and LMS by streamlining a 'Castle' and a 'King' had laughable (and ugly) results as can be seen here at Swindon MPD in June 1935. Good grief!
