5024 6028 1957-05-30 Dainton
Credited as probably being the Down 'Cornish Riviera Express' this is a stirring shot of Newton Abbot's 5024 Carew Castle, a long time resident until its withdrawal from there in May 1962, as it pilots Old Oak Common's 6028 King Henry II westwards and climbs through the woods on the eastern side of Dainton Bank.
5024 bears an empty Reporting Number frame, possibly for use on a later working back from Plymouth, and would have come on to this duty at Newton Abbot in order to assist the 'King' over the South Devon banks, the load most probably being over the ten coach limit for an unassisted 'King'.
