7012 1951c Swindon Station
The Hawksworth tender date it to between April 1951 and Jan 52. The building behind the engine had other buildings constructed in front of it in during the 1950s.
7012 had been a Landore engine in the ' fifties but was to end its days at Wolverhampton's Oxley Motive Power Depot , being one of the ten " Castles " needed at Oxley for the 1964 Summer Services in order to work the Saturday additional traffic from the West Midlands down as far as Bristol , those workings then being taken forward by Diesel power to the far West of England holiday resorts in Somerset , Devon and Cornwall.
Oxley also used its ten " Castles " on the Inter Regional passenger services working usually as far as Oxford , as well as on heavy parcels and perishables traffic to London .
Five of Oxley's ten " Castles " were withdrawn in November of 1964 , the 1964 Summer Services by then having ended , sadly including " Barry Castle " and the remaining five only survived for a further three months until they too were condemned in the following February .
