7000 1963-10-25 Gloucester
With the tower of Gloucester Cathedral visible in the background , 7000, " Viscount Portal " is a shadow of its former self as it heads up through Gloucester Central from South Wales on what are probably empty ore wagons here in 1963 .
A " Top Link "Westcountry engine in happier days , a regular sight on the tightly timed " Torbay Express " between Paddington and Newton Abbot , and used additionally on passenger workings to Bristol Temple Meads from the Westcountry in the ' fifties , being kept in pristine condition whilst allocated to Newton Abbot , 7000 finally ended up at Worcester , as did so many other " Castles " in their late years and would have just two months in service remaining at the date of this view.
