5091 1957 Exeter St Davids
The ornate background to platform one here at Exeter St. David's enhances pictures such as this , and my records show that 5091 , "Cleeve Abbey " had , by the date of this view , been recently transferred from Chester to Exeter shed so that might well explain her presence here in the far Westcountry. 5091 was unusual in having a cab roof ventilator, as is seen here and a lower cabside handrail, both a reminder of when she was one of the oil burning locomotives in the short lived GWR experiment with oil used instead of coal. Her period at Exeter was short lived , however , and she became a Welsh allocated engine later that same year , moving from Carmarthen to Landore ,Cardiff Canton and finally to Worcester and then Tyseley before withdrawal in late 1964.
