In front of the Factory traverser4082 , " Windsor Castle " looks to be in pretty good condition here , possibly not long after a visit to Swindon Works perhaps as that smokebox and its numberplate look to be freshly repainted . Engines going through Swindon Works for a light overhaul without the boiler being removed were invariably just repainted at the front end , such overhauls being known , I believe , as a " Heel and Toe " job. Ths engine is , of course , really 7013 , " Bristol Castle " and it worked the Royal funeral train on 15th. February , 1952 from Paddington to Windsor , carrying " Windsor Castle " name and numberplates which it retained until the end of its service in August of 1964. The " real " "Windsor Castle " , the former G.W.R. " Royal Engine " , had been unable to work the funeral train at that time in view of the fact that it was awaiting overhaul at Worcester Works , whereas Worcester shed's own " Bristol Castle " was fresh from overhaul and as such was a much better locomotive for that working
