Cooper's Metals, at Sharpness on the Gloucestershire bank of the Severn was a small breakers' yard which I suspect took more condemned engines from Swindon than its limited workforce could handle and not all the locomotives seen here on 23rd. August of 1964 were in fact , disposed of there.
5040, "Stokesay Castle" in the foreground of this photograph was, however, cut up here, but a number further down this line were sold on to other breakers such as Cashmores at Newport, examples being 7009, 7015 and 7037.
On my earlier visit on 15th. May, 1964 "Stokesay Castle" was still intact, a contrast to the scene shown here.
