5059 75004 43926 1956-05-05 Bristol

It's all happening in this picture here at Bristol Temple Meads, where Midland Region steam mixed with Western counterparts, and there was always much to see and hopefully record on film for posterity.
This appears to be the Northern end, with 43926 on the through road, whilst 75004 waits alongside.
5059, "Earl St. Aldwyn" a Newton Abbot engine at this date has just arrived and is about to be uncoupled, coming off this train here, with the fireman appearing to be carrying one of the two headlamps which he's just removed from the buffer beam. This could, therefore, be a West to North working, with Bath Road shed rostering a fresh engine to work the train forward, either to Birmingham or Wolverhampton, or possibly Shrewsbury, via the Severn Tunnel.
Ousted from its Westcountry home by the incoming Diesels 5059 later was transferred to Wolverhampton Stafford Road and thence to Shrewsbury, being withdrawn from there in 1962, an early "Castle" casualty.
