4098 1960s Newton Abbot
An interesting view of the Western end of Newton Abbot station from the 1960's with Newton Abbot's own 4098 , " Kidwelly Castle" which appears not to be in steam and being moved off shed by what looks like an unidentified " Hall " with part of the shed and Wagon Works complex in the background. .
This view illustrates the lines heading out under the road bridge to Aller Junction and leading down to the Torquay line and over Dainton down to Plymouth and beyond.
4098 was a long term resident here at Newton Abbot until , like so many other of the Westcountry " Castles " it was moved to Old Oak Common in mid 1962 as the Diesels took over so many of their West of England duties , the " Castle " finally being withdrawn in December of 1963.
