7029 1965-11-27 Sapperton Bank
Peter Kerslake; "One of my better efforts as "Clun Castle" struggles to the summit of Sapperton Bank and heads towards Swindon on 27th. November, 1965 in the penultimate month of its life with BR.
This Special had run from Paddington to Bristol, thence to Gloucester before returning to Paddington via Swindon but 7029 was not in the best mechanical condition having been used on a number of such Specials at this time, in addition to working on freights in the Gloucester area and acting as "Station Pilot " at the two Gloucester stations right up to the end of that year.
Down to walking pace here on Sapperton Bank, again running late with its sanders in operation to prevent slipping 7029 was understood to be suffering from leaking boiler tubes."
