At the top of Sapperton Bank , 7029 heads the " Farewell to Steam " special on its return to Paddington on the 27th. of November , 1965 , but 7029 was working to Swindon only on this part of the round trip.
The Special had run from Paddington to Bristol that morning with 7029 at its head , thence to Gloucester where 7029 had been serviced on Horton Road shed.
On the morning outward run 7029 had lost a lot of time between Temple Meads and Gloucester , and was down to walking pace here in this picture , the problem being leaking smokebox tubes.
7029 now has just a month left in BR ownership and was long overdue an overhaul after working many Specials in the previous months and with the scheduled closure of the remaining Western Region sheds in the area before the end of the year things were all coming to an unhappy end.
