4093 1964-08 Oxford
A pleasing shot of 4093 , "Dunster Castle" seen here at Oxford in the final month of service , on an express passenger working , with plenty of youthful enthusiasts about and what looks like ex LMS horseboxes over on the other platforms.
Poor old 4093 didn't have long left at the date of this view and she was steamed for the very last time whilst at Gloucester on 4th. September , 1964 when , withdrawn from service , and after her cabside number plates were that day removed there, she was moved under her own steam from Horton Road shed over to some " holding " sidings adjacent to Hempsted Power Station before later being moved again over to the former Midland Region Barnwood shed prior to being towed away to Cashmores at Newport in May of the following year for disposal .
In happier times , 4093 had been a Landore engine , and in years past would doubtless had been one of that shed's finest on the South Wales express duties to and from Paddington, particularly in Great Western Railway days.
