5023 1956-02-25 Marsh Mills Plymouth

Peter Kerslake says "One of my better efforts as 5023 "Brecon Castle" speeds over the River Plym east off Plymouth and is photographed from Saltram Park as it heads toward the foot of Hemerdon Bank on 25th. February , 1956 with the 2.p.m. from Plymouth to Paddington.. There is an interesting story here as this was during the period when all the "King" class locomotives were taken out of service due to a spate of bogie failures and "Castle" class engines were pressed into service in place of the "Kings" and this train would almost certainly have been worked by a "King" in normal circumstances. Traces of recent snow are visible."
