7022 1964-07-12 Bristol Barrow Road
As Bristol Bath Road Motive Power Depot was at the date of this view closed to steam it was necessary for locomotives requiring attention upon arrival at Bristol to go over to the former Midland Region shed at Barrow Road , but as the months passed the facilities there became run down particularly in the final months before Western steam ended completely at the end of 1965 .
7022 was allocated to 85A ( Worcester ) at the time of this good close up photograph and had been the seventh out of eight "Castles " selected to take part in the planned 9th. May 1964 high speed Special Working from Paddington to Plymouth and return , but in the event it was not used .
One of the final four " Castles " in service , 7022 ended its days at Gloucester in June , 1965 in company with 5042 , "Winchester Castle " and 7034 , " Ince castle " , leaving 7029 " Clun Castle " there alone as the sole " Castle " in service.
