Although very much a stranger to the Westcountry in the ' fifties , 7022 " Hereford Castle " was nevertheless to be the last "Castle " shedded at Plymouth's Laira shed before it too was reallocated , the engine going from Laira most appropriately to Hereford in November , 1963 .
Pictured here on Shrewsbury's Motive Power Depot in what would be after the above date 7022 , in company with three other " Castles " , was used primarily by Hereford shedmasters on the North to West express workings to here at Shrewsbury , but in March , 1964 " Herford Castle " was reallocated to Worcester where it remained until yet another move , this time to Gloucester , in the October of that same year.
Destined to be one of the last four surviving " Castles " , 7022 was finally condemned from Gloucester in June , 1965 .
Very many of the " Castles " , during their last years in service seemed to end up at Gloucester !
