Ex-Great Western Railway Churchward '28xx' class 2-8-0 No. 3838. Built at Swindon in Jan. 1942 and withdrawn in Nov. 1964. It is an indication of the success of Churchward's (and Britain's) first 2-8-0s that 161 were built over a 39 year time span. The delightfully named Dr. Day's Bridge Junction at Bristol sees 3838 approaching with a freight. The locality was a reference to Dr. William Day who lived nearby in Barrow Road. He was renowned for 'quack' medicines such as promoting the curative properties of - Rhubarb! ©
