Ex-Great Western Railway Collett '97xx' class 0-6-0 Condensing Pannier Tank No. 9700. Built by Beyer Peacock & Co. of Manchester in February 1931 and withdrawn in October 1963.
Fresh from overhaul in October 1955, the class prototype is pictured at Swindon Works. The '97xxs' were the condensing version of the '57xx' class. Just eleven were built specifically for working London's Hammersmith & City line between Paddington station and Smithfield Meat Market.
