The 578mm gauge Penrhyn Quarry Railway did what it said in its title, serving the slate quarry near Bethesda and carrying it the six miles to Port Penrhyn near Bangor for shipping. Horse-drawn from 1801 the line was rebuilt in 1878 and steam traction introduced until closure in 1963. 'Linda' is an 1893 Hunslet of Leeds product (WN590) and this fine portrait was taken at Port Penrhyn in April 1954.
