92xxx 1965-08-03 Gloucester Central
The identity of this 9F has been lost, Peter Kerslake the photographer says "Yes, sadly I have not recorded the 9F's identity but the class were very much in evidence in this final year of Western Region steam as they passed through Gloucester Central taking East Midlands iron ore the Welsh steel works and returning with steel, empties or, as appears here, with what looks like coal.
Severn Tunnel Junction, Gloucester Horton Road and Newport depots were still open to steam at this time and so a variety of motive power was still working on the main South Wales line through to Gloucester, the duties being shared between LMR and Western Region locomotives including London Midland 8Fs, Standard 9Fs, with Western "Halls" and the like all making appearances and invariably halting at Gloucester for a crew change and to take water.
Horton Road depot is visible in the distance with the line in the foreground leading over to Eastgate station."
