How well cut back the embankments are in this shot of mine from 1959 or thereabouts , and what a contrast to today, although this is still very much a favourite location for railway photographers, with the overbridge from where I took this view remaining.
I didn't have much luck with colour photography at that time, but it's a nice sunny day at the summit of Hemerdon Bank , just east of Plymouth , as D 801 reaches the summit on a working which includes an interesting mix of BR Mark 1s and ex-GWR stock in both maroon and blood & custard
