D818 1961-08 Reading General
With modified Hall 6979, a Cordon, acid carboys on the platform and all those spotters.
A familiar ‘50s and ‘60s scene repeated up and down the country at main line junction stations and termini with spotters gathered at the platform ends – in this case the west end of Reading General’s Up platform 5. The spotter ‘count’ at this moment here was 44 (plus just one adult!), there would have been a fairly constant migration to the east end of the same platform where usually a smaller number were able to observe any movement over at the Reading South terminus. The nearest line to them was the infrequently used connection between the Up main and the line into platform 6 and 7 bay thus posing little danger.
