D827 1968-08 Plymouth
With the 1M39 08.40 Penzance-Wolverhampton. Note that the overhead livewire flashes are missing from the side of the locomotive; when these were replaced they appeared in front of the doors rather than behind which made Kelly unique among Swindon Warships. The Multiple Working equipment has reappeared courtesy of the 1968 paired diagrams.
Peter Kerslake says "It's August so the young enthusiasts are out in force here at Plymouth North Road with D827 'Kelly' on platform seven. Emerging from Swindon in October of 1960 'Kelly', like so many of its fellows spent time housed at Plymouth's Laira depot and at Newton Abbot before being condemned on the 1st. of January 1972. This is a 'West to North' express and 'Kelly' will doubtless work through to Bristol Temple Meads having brought this service up from Penzance."
