Caledonian Rly. D. Drummond 'Eglinton' class 4-4-0 No. 124 'Eglinton'. Built by Dubs & Co. of Glasgow in 1886 and withdrawn in 1925 still as CR No. 1124 (re-numbered).

In 1886 Dugald Drummomd ordered two unique locomotives to be displayed at the Edinburgh International Exhibition. The 4-2-2 'Single' No. 123 from Neilson & Co. is well-known and thankfully preserved. This is the other locomotive, No. 124 'Eglinton' from Dubs & Co. As built, 124 was fitted with a newly-patented Bryce-Douglas valve gear, this was replaced with Stephenson link motion the next year! Thus did another patented 'bright idea' slip into obscurity. Restored from an original period 8"x10" print.
