GWR Saint class 4-6-0 No 2902 Lady of the Lake arrives at Paddington with an express in c1907/8.
Peter Kerslake adds "Initially unnamed when built in May 1906, 2902 must have been a favourite at Old Oak Common in its early days because it worked the inaugral three-hour accelerated service from Paddington to Plymouth on 2nd July 1906 aand was also chosen for the first of the two-hour services from Birmingham to Paddington on 1st July 1910. A horse shoe thrown on to the footplate for good luck as it left Birmingham that day was fixed inside the cab and remained there for the engine's working lifetime."
