The prototype Churchward 4-6-0 No 100 William Dean reverses out of Paddington in 1905. It was renumbered 2900 in 1912/13.

Peter Kerslake adds "Destined to be the first of Mr. Churchward's acclaimed "Saint" class no.100 emerged from Swindon in February of 1902 but was experimental in her original form as seen in this fine view at Paddingon fom 1905, retaining her original boiler, raised Belpair casing on a steel firebox fot just over one year with brass Works Plates on her leading splashers.

100 was initially unnamed but became "Dean" in June of 1902 then "William Dean" in November 1902 although the original design of nameplates were replaced in 1904 with the more standard G.W.R. pattern as seen in this image but with narrow distance plates, her new plates still being on the leading splashers up until February of 1906 when they were moved to the middle splashers and the Works Plates were replaced by a single plate below the smokebox.
Later numbered 2900 the locomotive was withdrawn in June 1932after thirty years service"
