6006 1957-03-30 Ranelagh Bridge

6006 King George I on the turntable at Ranelagh Bridge on 30th March 1957 with Bristol Bath Road's 1009 County of Carmarthen in the background.

Peter Kerslake adds "Not one of the fourteen Kings rebuilt with new front frames Stafford Road's 6006 was the first of the class to be condemned, in February 1962. 6006 was being turned on Ranelagh yard's turntable ready to work back to Wolverhampton after having arrived earlier in the day and with its tender holding sufficient coal for this 'Out and Back' duty; a run out to Old Oak Common to refuel would not have been necessary.
The unfortunate occupants of those overlooking flats would certainly have had to put up with a continuous barrage of smoke, steam and noise from the yard, but what a fine location for any enthusiast!"
