6014 1937 London Paddington

6014 1937 London Paddington

The "streamlined" King 4-6-0 No 6014 King Henry VII arrives at Paddington with an express from Plymouth in 1937. Its full set of streamlining lasted for only five months. The coverings over and around the cylinders were regarded as a major hindrance to routine lubrication and were soon removed - along with the tender cowling - in August 1935. 6014 has the special bracket on the inside valve chest to hold the Reporting Number frame.

Peter Kerslake adds "A fine shot of 6014 in its "Semi Streamlined" form as the panels ahead of the outside cylinders have already gone, as has the covering on the tender, but the straight namelates, the rounded cover to the smokebox door and the straight splashers and modified cab are there to see, as is the panel behind the chimney and safety valve bonnet.
What is interesting are the hand holds and footstep on the smokebox side, there to assist the fireman when placing or removing a lamp from that bracket atop the smokebox, and the bracket for the Reporting Number bracket is on the front face of the valve chest, a feature retained by 6014 for its whole working life"
