6014 1937-10-09 Leamington Spa

Not too many images survive today of 6014 King Henry VII in "streamlined" form, but this excellent view shows most, but not all, of the modifications.
Following the LNER's introduction of the 'P2' and 'A4' classes, the Great Western modified both 6014 and 5005 Manorbier Castle. 6014 was dealt with at Swindon during its period within the Works from January until March 1935, thereafter being transferred from its previous home at Wolverhampton Stafford Road to Old Oak Common.
Just five months later some of the additional panels covering the outside cylinders and hiding thr inside valve gear were removed, as was the cowling on the tender, and it is in this later condition that the engine appears in this photograph.
The "bullet nosed" smokebox door, the chimney and safety valve fairings all went in December 1942 or early 1943 whilst the original splashers and nameplates which had been kept safely at Swindon were refitted during the engine's overhaul there in late 1944.
All that was left for the engine's remaining years in service were the wedge fronted cab and the special bracket on the inside valve chest for the Reporting Number frame.
