6017 1962 Stafford Road

6017 1962 Stafford Road

After withdrawal.Allocated to Plymouth's Laira Depot from early 1952 until its move to Wolverhampton Stafford Road in early 1959 " King Edward IV " had been one of Laira's best "Kings " during those seven years in the far West, a regular sight on the principal and heavily loaded passenger express workings between Plymouth and Paddington.Transfer to Stafford Road followed the diminishing work available to the Laira " Kings " when the Diesels came on to the Westcountry services in the late ' fifties, and 6017 's final three years at Stafford Road ended in July 1962 following a month in store there. The removed number and nameplates in this view indicates that this is after 6017 's withdrawal and before its sale to Cox and Danks at Langley Green in the following April from where it was finally disposed of.
