6009 1959 Brent

6009 1959 Brent

South Brent was the junction on the main line for the Kingsbridge branch and 6009 is running through South Brent station with a working from Plymouth back home to Paddington, the date being given as 1959, with the southern fringes of Dartmoor visible in the background, the line closely skirting that edge of the moor at this location.
" King Charles II " had been in Swindon undergoing a Heavy Overhaul in February that year and the engine looks to be well turned out in this view and was unique in that it spent its entire working life of thirty four years allocated to just a single Motive Power Depot, namely Old Oak Common, a record which no other " King " could equal.
It's a sunny afternoon, with the shadows lengthening, and the Kingsbridge branch lies out of shot on the far left of this view.
